A Community of Faith

Fairview United Methodist Church was organized in 1889 as a Methodist Episcopal Church by a small group of people. Prominent in the planning was William Tysinger, James Metters, and Gary W. Harris who, with his wife Elizabeth, gave the land. The land deed is dated February 25, 1890.

The first church was a wooden structure erected under the leadership of Rev. E. S. Earnhart. The church had plain straight back wooden pews, a pump organ, and interior wall lamps. The church was heated by a wood stove.

Fairview acquired its name because of the beautiful view the church overlooks.

In 1946 a new brick structure was completed in the same location as the original church, under the leadership of Rev. A. A. Ridge. IN addition to the sanctuary there were four classrooms. Heating was by an oil furnace.

In the early 1970s, planning began to build an Educational Building and Fellowship Hall. In addition there is a kitchen, restrooms, and four classrooms. This structure was completed in June 1975.

In the Spring of 1982, the church began a major renovation program of the existing church sanctuary, interior, and exterior. This renovation was completed in the Spring of 1983. The church held its first service in the newly remodeled sanctuary on Easter Sunday of that year.

Today, Fairview United Methodist Church is an active church in the Davidson Parish of the Uwharrie District of the Western North Carolina Conference.
